Played-By: Alexis Bledel  CHARACTER INFORMATION Canon: Yes Full name: Katherine Anne Pryde Codename: Shadowcat Mutation: Corporeal Intangibility: Kitty has the ability to pass through solid matter by altering the vibratory rates of her atoms: passing her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. In this way she and the object through which she is passing can temporarily merge without interacting, and each is unharmed when she has finished passing through the object. This process is called phasing, and it renders her almost completely intangible to physical touch. Kitty passes through objects at the same speed at which she is moving before she "enters" them. Since she is unable to breathe while "inside" an object, she can only continuously phase through solid objects (as when she travels underground) as long as she can hold her breath. She is naturally solid and must choose when to use her power. While phasing, she does not physically walk on surfaces, but rather interacts with the molecules of air above them, allowing her to ascend and descend, allowing her to seemingly walk on air. While phased, she is immune to most physical attacks, and has inconsistent showings of some resistance to telepathy. The density of some materials (such as adamantium) can prove deleterious to her phasing, causing her to be severely disoriented or experience pain if she tries to pass through them. Directed-energy attacks, such as lightning and lasers, have been shown to pass through her without harm. Magic and magical beings also prove to be an enigma in regards to Kitty's phasing. The use of her abilities also interferes with any electrical systems (including the bio-electric systems of the human body), as she passes through by disrupting the flow of electrons from atom to atom. She can extend her phasing effect to her own clothing or any other object with mass up to that of a small truck, as long as she remains in contact with it. She has trained herself to go automatically, by reflex, into a phasing state at any indication of danger, such as a loud noise like a gunshot, in order to protect herself. Besides her mutant powers, Kitty is a genius in the field of applied technology and computer science. She is highly talented in the design and use of computer hardware. She possesses moderate expertise of the martial arts of the Japanese ninja and samurai. She sings with a Soprano range and plays the piano. She is a professional level dancer in both ballet and modern dance. She speaks fluent English, Japanese, Russian, and has moderate expertise in Gaelic, Hebrew, and German.  Age: 24 Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Physical Description: Coming in at 5' 2", Kitty is rather short. She has a dancer's body; thin and lithe. Her long hair is dark brown and blue eyes large and piercing. She has two holes in each ear but no tattoos. Her style of dress is casual and trendy, her color preference leaning toward darker colors because they look best with her pale skin. Personality: Kitty likes to have fun. She's giggly, very girly and sweet. Her loyalties run deep and she trusts far too easily. She is very much into anything that is artistic. Music, art, dance, even painting and drawing (which she cannot do) kind of make her go off into her own world. She has a very creative spirit and can easily lose herself in someone else's work, as much as her own. Conversely, there is also a large part of her that likes order, symmetry, and absolutes. She finds comfort in computer programming and the ins and outs of flow charts and documents. Sometimes if she is too stressed to clear her mind enough to dance or play music, she will hop onto a computer and start building websites for different organizations, or even for friends just to concentrate on something new for awhile. Did you get the shot? Negative  History: Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde was born in Deerfield, Illinois to Carmen and Theresa Pryde on a crisp day in November. Being an only child, she was doted on from her first breath, never lacking in anything she could ever need or want. While her parents were not rich, they did well for themselves and put Kitty into ballet classes and karate classes at a very young age. She took to them like a bird to the air, loving the intricacies of the movements and the confidence it gave her. By the time she was twelve, she'd won multiple awards for her dancing skills and was already well on her way to becoming a black belt. She excelled in school, especially in her classes involving computers. When she was thirteen, Kitty had a terrible dream, a nightmare that triggered her mutation. She was running from someone or something and nothing seemed to be getting her anywhere. Eventually in the nightmare she found herself in a body of water, surrounded by seaweed and creatures trying to pull her under. With a lack of oxygen, head began to throb. In reality, Kitty was in bed and struggling with her blankets. The feeling of having no air in her lungs came when she phased through her bed and through her floor. She woke up to the feeling of falling and hit the basement floor with a sharp thud. For a moment Kitty had no idea what to think. Then panic set in and she screamed, drawing her parents from their beds. While Theresa tried to comfort her terrified daughter and make sense of what Kitty was saying, Carmen looked up to see blankets partially phased through the ceiling. Xavier was quick to find her and offer her a place at his school for gifted children. Upon visiting the school with her parents, Kitty immediately felt comfortable with the place and decided to stay. She grew close to Xavier and a few other of the adults. Her connection with Ororo Munroe was strong and immediate, as well as her bond with Logan, whom she trained under to fine tune skills she’d been learning all her life. Her first real mission came shortly after the introduction of “The Cure" for mutants. She was part of the team that went to Worthington Industries on Alcatraz Island to battle Magneto and his brotherhood of mutants. She was key in saving the mutant known as Leech; it was Magneto’s goal to find the boy and kill him. Kitty led the boy safely out of the building and escaped with Bobby and most of the others. Since then, Kitty completed her “normal" education and graduated with top marks. She stayed at Xavier's to continue on as a full member of the X-Men, to further her mutant education, and offer teaching assistance when needed. She also teaches various forms of dance to elementary aged children at a studio in town.  Important Relationships: Ororo Munroe Kitty has always shared a special bond with Ororo, something close to a mother/daughter relationship. As Kitty grew and matured, Ororo was still in that same role in Kitty's life, but she has also become a close friend. There is nothing Kitty wouldn't share with Ororo, and she holds Ro in the greatest of respects. Bobby Drake Once upon a time, Kitty and Bobby had a thing for each other. At the time Bobby had a girlfriend, namely Rogue, and it complicated matters a bit. When Xavier died and Bobby was the one to try and help lift her spirits, her need for comfort was mistaken for romantic affections. It did not take Bobby and Kitty long to realize that they were better as friends. Since then, Kitty would consider Bobby to be her very best friend. Jubilation Lee Kitty and Jubilee are like oil and water; they rarely mix well together. Going to school with one another for so long, however, the girl have a mutual understanding and respect for one another. Though they rarely see eye to eye, they can work together when the situation requires it. Kitty doesn’t dislike Jubilee per se, but she’s certainly not close with her. Theresa Cassidy Being roommates with someone for years makes you pretty close to a person. Xavier thought it wise to pair the girls together because of Theresa’s sonic scream mutation, and Kitty’s phasing ability that would leave her virtually unaffected by the scream if she phased fast enough. Kitty adores Theresa and thinks of her like a sister. Wolverine Kitty and Logan have always had a different kind of relationship. She trained under him for several years and grew up with a deep respect for him. She was one of the few people who, if Logan gave her grief, gave it right back. It was almost always followed with a cheeky grin, though. Her feelings for Logan have always been unclear, even to her. He’s a person she feels safe around, and that confuses her. Rogue To say the girls were friends when Rogue was still at Xavier’s would be a stretch, though they were hardly enemies. Much like her relationship with Jubilee, Kitty was aware of Rogue but never worked to befriend her. Kitty still feels that Rogue blames her for the ultimate ending of her relationship with Bobby. Where are they now/where do you see this character going? Kitty is still at Xavier’s now as a teacher and a teaching assistant. She offers classes in computer programming and mechanics. She also periodically takes dance classes at a studio in town. I would like to see her take on something more of a leadership role somewhere. Kitty has always been the proverbial “everybody’s little sister” and she wants to prove that she’s more than the kid everyone still thinks of her as.
